ARTIST'S STATEMENT

In my creative work I seek to emulate the intimacy of our surroundings and the private within the public. There are contradictions and compliments in this montage of environment and the human condition: mayhem and tranquility, fear and courage, dichotomies, the presumed known and the unknown. A wall painted with scrawls carries an individual’s voice and the realms of nature hold strong yet fragile beauty. With marks of dynamic gestural line interacting with form on the page, I develop relationships with rhythmic tensions reflecting a balance in the chaos.
My practice includes sketching, photographing and writing in land- and urban-scapes, and while observing people. The time I spend walking through cities, forests, along beaches, sitting in cafes or on public transit, are times for consideration. They teach me to be observant to the sensitivities of how we live. I merge my visual and verbal notations with the memory of my perceptions for the sources of my expressionistic compositions.
